Hi all, have been on triple therapy for several weeks now and it is starting to work thankfully. However, I take my mx (25mg on a Thursday) I split the dose, 5 tablets at lunchtime and 5 at tea time. the last couple of Thursdays Ive had a problem in the evening with diahrohhea (sorry dont know how to spell it!!!) only on a Thursday night. I presume that this is because of the mixture of mx and leflunomide. Although the leflu is working, it is making me feel quite nauseous (like morning sickness) and I have no appetite at all (Ive lost quite a bit of weight but not complaning!!) I feel particularly sick on a Thursday and Friday during the day. Can anyone recommend anything at all?

Many thanks

Do you take any anti sickness pills Heather?

It might be worthwhile thinking about injecting the mtx?
YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Hi Heather,

I too felt quite naueous when I first started taking MTX, the advice someone gave me on here was to eat ginger biscuits, worked a treat.

Hi Heather,I was the same when taking MTX tablet form, not had Leflu yet, but I'm sure they'll get round to giving me it at some point.
Started injecting MTX and felt much better. Ginger in most forms is very good for the sickness feelings.
Hope you feel better soon, Kathleen x

Hi Heather

I agree with others it is most likely to be the methotrexate causing the problems. There are a couple of alternatives 1) the mtx injections as Kathleen suggested or 2) worth a try splitting the methotrexate into smaller doses. As long as the 25mg is in your system in a 24 hour period ie 8am Thursday to 8am Friday you could split the doses into 5 x 5mg to make it easier on your stomach. Or 12.5mg thursday afternoon and 12.5mg friday morning! Lots of options ThumpUp

Ginger biscuits are excellent though so do give them a try! You mention triple therapy, what is your other drug?

Hello Heather,

I agree with the other posts they all sound good advice. I did not get the sick feeling.

Sorry you feel like this and I hope that you can use some of the suggestions so that
that dreadful feeling disappears

Hi all, thanks for the replies, Im on mx hydroxy and leflu. I think I will try smaller does of the mx this week and see if that does the trick. I was fine on mx before leflu so Im sure its just the combination. I feel ok today!

thanks again

Hi Heather, looking back through my RA diary found drinking ginger helps with nausea, and I did have some which helped at the time.
Just googled "ginger drinks" and there's quite a lot to look at. Now I fancy one so might treat myself to a bottle today ........purely medicinal ofcourse!!
Could replace the usual tea, coffee ect. Cheers Kathleen x
